A four-year-old girl is proudly taking responsibility for helping police figure who was behind a burglary that happened at her home while her babysitter was in charge.

According to reports, the Washington state home invasion happened last week while four-year-old Abby was being watched by her 17-year-old babysitter. In a 911 call that day, the babysitter said that she and the children were able to escape, and during an interview with police, she alleged that the two suspects who broke in were black. When police asked to describe the suspects, she told them that she believed one of them was the next-door neighbor Cody Oakes, 25.

That was all police needed to arrest Oakes and bring him in for questioning, but when Abby was being interviewed by police and found out what her babysitter had told them, she immediately knew something was up. Abby told investigators that the two men who broke into the home were white, not black like the babysitter alleged.

“It wasn’t the right skin color,” said Abby. “They told us to get out of the house cause they wanted to steal stuff. The bad guys stole my kitty bank, they stole my iPod.”

Once investigators talked to Abby, Oakes was already in custody for hours, and after bringing the babysitter back in to question her again, the 17-year-old admitted to plotting the break-in with two friends and blaming it on Oakes.

“Literally in 30 seconds, she changed everything that had been going on for five, six hours,” said Abby’s mother of the girl’s assistance to police.

Oakes was immediately let go, and now, the babysitter, her 16-year-old boyfriend, and an 18-year-old friend Ruben J. Benjamin are in police custody, facing robbery, burglary, and perjury charges. Four-year-old Abby has no problem admitting that she helped save the day and notes that because of her, her family got all of the stolen items back.

“I thinked about – that was really – that was really her being bad. She’s not a good babysitter,” said Abby. “They got it all back because of me being the superhero.”
