The Green family, which owns Hobby Lobby, has been fighting Obamacare in the U.S. Supreme Court because they do not want to provide health insurance that gives their employees access to certain types of contraception that offend the religious conscience of the company.
The Greens have claimed on many occasions that they don’t seek to force their religion on other people, but simply do not want to pay for contraception such as Plan B, Ella and IUDs.
However, Religious News Service reports that Hobby Lobby’s President Steve Green is trying to influence Oklahoma’s Mustang Public School district with his religious beliefs.
Green is behind the “Museum of the Bible Curriculum” program that the school district is going to teach this Fall.
The “Museum of the Bible Curriculum” will be an elective program that studies the influence of the Bible on western civilization.
The course can be taught in the public school per a ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1963 that stated, “Nothing we have said here indicates that such study of the Bible… when presented objectively as part of a secular program of education, may not be effected consistently with the First Amendment.”
But RawStory.com notes the Bible may not be taught objectively based on Green’s religious beliefs, which he shared during a speech to the National Bible Association last year (video below).
“The goal is to show that the impact of this book, when we apply it to our lives, has been good, because it has. So it’s good, and it’s true,” said Green.
“We’re as ignorant [as] we’ve ever been, would be my argument because we aren’t teaching it in our schools,” added Green. “That would be the goal to reintroduce this book to this nation, because it is in danger, because of its ignorance, of what God has taught.”
Green also said that teaching the Bible in high school “should be mandated.”
